Deb Laslie opened Deb's Bookstore in January 2005. The store is still growing and is a labor of love where she, her husband, Fielden, and family, have worked hard to make it a comfortable place to work and shop.
Deb says, “It’s great to be surrounded by family and old and new friends. I’ve always been a book-a-holic, a hereditary trait. My mom used to own a used bookstore in town but sold it long before I moved back home. Opening my own store has always been a dream. I have the best job in the world and I am surrounded by books and really great customers.”
Deb, formerly Debbie Sullenger, is the daughter of Delene Sullenger and granddaughter of Marlin and Erma (Burns) Styles. She graduated from Cullman High School in 1975 and from UNA in 1979.
Deb's husband is Fielden Laslie. Her constant canine companion is Dee Dawg, a female miniature Schnauzer. Deb says "Dee is an Irish Wolfhound trapped in a Schnauzer body."
Deb's twin sons, Travis (right) and Grant (left) having completed their tours in Iraq are both now in school. Travis is attending UCLA, studying history and working toward a commission in the Marines thru Naval ROTC. Grant has been accepted to the US Military Academy and will start this summer.
Local Author, Charles Ghigna, affectionately known as Father Goose, was recently at Deb's Bookstore signing copies of his children's books.
